I’m a midlife, midcareer woman living in the midwest. Oh, wait, maybe I don’t have a career. I have a job. I’m a writer. In 1981, I asked a professor to be my advisor and he said no – I’d never work in my field. In fact, I’ve never NOT worked in my field.
My work life has been varied: writing, editing, graphic design (my skills were always quite limited), desktop publishing, web design, media ethics, program development, office management, fundraising, etc., It’s not been particularly lucrative, but I’ve gotten by and it’s always been interesting. I guess, for me, that counts most of all. (Until it comes time to retire, then I guess I’d better just die.)
I decided to start this blog because almost every day I do research on some odd topic – international traffic in arms regulations, construction defect in arizona, drunk driving in maryland, media misreporting on Katrina dollars used to pay for a sex change operation – and every day I learn some odd combination of facts. I thought it might be interesting to put all those facts down in one place… to craft one unusual picture of the world.
I don’t know how often I’ll actually post. I’m an unusually busy person. But we’ll just give it a go and see what happens.
